Having numbered links under articles is a standard navigational inclusion however as relates to news article is of limited user interest.

User would be interested to see titles of next articles. It would be "nice" if user could have options to show title of next or previous articles at footer.

Ideally, in the footer should be a list of any other articles relevant to the current article. The way this would work would be for a list of keyphrases to be allowed in admin panel.
If any keyphrases are found in article, then a script will search mySQL and retrieve and offer that link at page footer.

This would be an absolutely excellent reference at footer and also, as well as being vitally of interest to article reader support the search engine linking and listing of articles.
